About The Position

This is a seasonal position at Purgatory Resort in Durango, CO, focused on cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and performing food preparation tasks. The role is available from November to April, with dates subject to change based on applicant availability and business needs. Requirements

  • Basic understanding of sanitation and hygiene standards, especially in high-volume kitchen environments
  • Familiarity with safe handling of cleaning chemicals and proper dilution/mixing techniques
  • Knowledge of dishwashing equipment, including operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting
  • Understanding of resort safety policies, including those related to food handling, fire safety, and injury prevention
  • Awareness of waste reduction practices, including recycling, composting, and food waste management where applicable
  • Skill in operating commercial dishwashing machines (conveyor, under-counter, or flight-type)
  • Ability to clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, floors, walls, and workstations efficiently and thoroughly
  • Time management skills to ensure dishes, cookware, and utensils are cleaned promptly during peak service periods
  • Basic communication skills to coordinate with kitchen and front-of-house staff regarding equipment and cleanliness needs
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions related to cleaning procedures, chemical use, and safety protocols
  • Organizational skills for sorting, storing, and restocking kitchenware and supplies
  • Ability to work long shifts standing and walking, often in a hot, wet, and fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs), such as stock pots, garbage bins, or dish racks
  • Capable of working in high-altitude and cold-weather conditions, especially if transporting supplies to or from outdoor/mountain venues
  • Able to adapt to different kitchen layouts and cleaning routines across multiple resort venues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining a positive attitude during high-volume operations
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure cleanliness and compliance with health and safety regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Previous dishwashing & bussing experience preferred
  • Minimum 3 months on-the-job training

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment and items used in the day-to-day operations
  • Pre-meal preparation to include slicing and dicing meats and vegetables and any other foods on menu
  • General kitchen and dining area cleaning including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, and scrubbing
  • Trash removal
  • Clean area as necessary
  • Disposing of garbage and recycling
  • Washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
  • Guest service and guest service interactions as needed
  • Prep and cooking duties as assigned
  • Ensuring hygiene and cleanliness standards are met
  • Other duties as assigned
