About The Position

The Kitchen Steward at Methodist Healthcare Ministries is responsible for managing food service operations, including cash handling, food preparation, and maintaining cleanliness in the mini-café. This entry-level position requires effective communication with customers and adherence to safety and sanitation standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 6 months of cash handling experience in a similar retail/food service environment required.
• Must obtain and maintain Food Handler Certification.
• Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record required.
• Fluent in English; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Basic knowledge of the internet and ability to log in and out of computerized systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate a Point of Sale (POS) system and manage cash transactions.
• Receive and prepare food daily.
• Order and receive food supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness in the mini-café breakroom.
• Assist customers and handle customer concerns and complaints.
• Follow safety regulations and ensure cleanliness standards are met.
• Monitor the reach-in cooler for appropriate temperature settings.
• Receive, verify, and accept vendor food deliveries as needed.
• Check assigned work schedule for special events and prepare for daily operations.
• Keep the floor clean and maintain it free of food and spills.
• Ensure storage areas are clean and well stocked.
• Assist with maintaining accurate inventory of stock and supplies.
• Prepare bags and inventory for the food pantry program.
• Assist kitchen staff with duties such as dishwashing and inventory during events.

Benefits

• Hourly rate begins at $17.00, mid-range at $18.62, commensurate with experience and education.
