About The Position

Camp Mendocino is a residential summer camp located in Northern California, four hours north of San Francisco and spread over 2,000 acres. We provide transportation between San Francisco and Camp at the start and end of the summer. All Camp employees are expected to live, sleep and work at Camp. As a program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), we are dedicated to providing children and teens with safe, fun places to learn and grow, with professional staff to offer support and guidance, serving as caring mentors and role models. Position Purpose The Kitchen Staff provides high quality service to all campers, staff, and guests in the dining hall. The kitchen staff team preps and serves meals, clean the kitchen area, and work as a close team. Entry-level kitchen staff should have basic large-volume food prep and knife skills. Some additional skills can be learned on the job.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen
  • Experience cooking for large groups
  • Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, and kitchen procedures
  • Strong work ethic
  • Work well under pressure
  • Ability to work with youth in a positive manner
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain for at least 3 miles
  • Must be able to stand for 8 hours (with breaks)
  • Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 30° to 100°

Responsibilities

  • Prep work for high-volume meals (serving 300+ guests each meal)
  • Maintaining food quality and sanitation standards
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, understand and carry out oral instructions; flexibility and ability to follow instructions
  • Keep kitchen and equipment clean and organized
  • Serve food to campers, staff, and guests
  • Dishwashing as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
