About The Position

Job Summary: The Kitchen/Sanitation Aide is responsible for assisting the Food Service Manager in providing nutritious, well-prepared meals, served to all members of the camp community. The Kitchen/Sanitation Aide also assists with sanitation throughout camp as assigned. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties as assigned) Assist in the management of daily operations of the camp food and dining service, including coordinating distribution between the kitchen and dining hall, including creation of meals that are nutritionally balanced, ensuring food is prepared in a safe and efficient manner, and food is served on time, in coordination with kitchen and other staff. Assist with all aspects of meal preparation as assigned, including, but not limited to, washing and peeling, chopping, baking, mixing, etc. Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment; clean and maintain all food preparation and storage areas. Assist in the daily cleaning of all dishes. Assist in the daily cleaning of the kitchen and dining hall. Assist the Food Service Manager in the receiving and unpacking food orders. Assist the Food Service Manager in packing weekly cook-out dinner and breakfast boxes. Follow guidance and training for the safe storage and preparation of foods that may cause allergic reactions or pose other health risks to some campers and staff (examples, gluten, tree nuts, etc.) Work as a member of the food service team, working with Food Service Manager on assigned tasks to meet kitchen goals of timely, well-prepared meals. Assist with weekly camp clean up, including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, trash pick-up, etc. According to camp guidelines, sanitize various areas throughout the property including but not limited to bathrooms, living areas, staff areas, kitchen facilities, activity areas, picnic tables and frequently touched surfaces, and other areas as assigned.

Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years of age.
  • Believe in the Beyond mission.
  • Knowledge of and experience with food service, including food preparation, family-style and buffet style serving, cleaning, and industrial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to operate dishwashing equipment.
  • Ability to work as a member of a food service team.
  • Honor and respect camper and staff name and pronoun(s) as important contributing factors to overall positive mental well-being.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Possess good character, integrity, patience, sense of humor, enthusiasm, a high level of flexibility, and willingness to be a part of the camp community.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast paced, stressful environment.
  • Light mental and visual attention required for performing work where there is some variety but actions taken and decisions made are limited to few possibilities.
  • Work requires some coordination with others.
  • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
  • Walking on uneven terrain, up and down hills for distances up to ½ mile
  • Endurance to meet emergency needs
  • Ability (and willingness) to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours
  • The employee is subject to inside and/or outside environmental conditions, noise, outdoor elements such as rain, wind, sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
