About The Position

The Kitchen Porter at Medical West, UAB plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the kitchen environment within the Non-Durable Goods Manufacturing sector. This position ensures that all kitchen utensils, equipment, and workspaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to meet health and safety standards. The Kitchen Porter supports the culinary team by managing dishwashing duties, waste disposal, and assisting with basic food preparation tasks as needed. By maintaining an organized and hygienic kitchen, the Kitchen Porter contributes directly to the smooth operation of food production and service activities. This role requires a proactive attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment to support overall kitchen productivity and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of hygiene and food safety standards.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability with punctual attendance.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.

  • Previous experience working in a kitchen or food production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, clean, and sanitize all kitchen utensils, dishes, pots, pans, and equipment using industrial dishwashers and manual cleaning methods.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, and work surfaces to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Assist with the unloading and storage of deliveries, ensuring proper handling and storage of supplies.
  • Dispose of kitchen waste and recyclables in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
  • Support kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, and organizing ingredients when required.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the kitchen supervisor promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety guidelines, including personal hygiene and use of protective equipment.
