About The Position

Kitchen Assistant Part-Time (no more than 29 hours/week) ORGANIZATION: Friends of Switchpoint is a non-profit organization that has been serving individuals, families, and veterans in Utah who are experiencing poverty and homelessness since 2014. Job Summary: The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Manager in the kitchen. They need to help cater meals to the population they serve, receive feedback on meals that do/don’t work, be well-versed in food safety, and assist in keeping the kitchen clean and organized.

Requirements

  • Food handlers permit required
  • In-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work well in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict management abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year in kitchen experience preferred
  • Experience in cooking for a mass population preferred
  • Experience in working with and knowledge of vulnerable populations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the food preparation and cooking process.
  • Assist Kitchen Manager to monitor inventory levels and perform weekly inventory assessments.
  • Ensure the organization and sanitation of the kitchen, serving area, and dining room.
  • Receive and store all food products in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure food security and proper security of potentially harmful equipment and chemicals.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and inventory of freezers/refrigerators and pantry storage.
  • Follow a monthly menu created by the Kitchen Manager
  • Receive feedback on food from the population served and assist in adapting the menu.
  • Ensure food service-related equipment is kept in good working order and is regularly maintained.
  • Know their population being served.
  • Assist the Kitchen Manager in other duties as needed.
