About The Position

The Kitchen Assistant position provides assistance in the daily preparation of the school lunch and breakfast programs. The role involves working at various locations based on the needs of the kitchens, under the supervision of the Area Manager. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for developing and promoting good community relations among various community and school clientele. A ServSafe Certification is required within 6 months of hire. This position guarantees 6 hours per day and is FULL BENEFIT ELIGIBLE.

Requirements

  • ServSafe Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Collaborative team player.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, service, and sale of meals ensuring compliance with department regulations.
  • Independently follow menu and recipe instructions.
  • Prepare meals including washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat items.
  • Maintain daily meal counts and production records.
  • Assist in the setup and cleanup of serving areas for timely service to students, including dishwashing and proper sanitation of work stations.
  • Follow and understand all HACCP guidelines.
  • Use all kitchen equipment properly and clean equipment following safety precautions.
  • Operate Point of Sale system and reconcile monies daily to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage the opening, closing, cooking, and serving of students in the absence of the Kitchen Manager, as directed by the Area Manager.
  • Maintain good community relationships with other Nutrition Services staff, school staff, students, and parents.
  • Receive deliveries and store food and supplies as directed by the supervisor.
  • Participate in and lead training for kitchen staff members and complete all USDA Mandatory Professional Standards training hours annually.
  • Serve meals daily while ensuring compliance with HACCP plan and health department sanitation standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
