Job Description Summary The Kitchen Aide is responsible for transporting food from one location to another while operating a Club vehicle. Maintains food service facilities and equipment in a sanitary condition; organizes and cleans. Assists in the preparation and serving of food in the cafeteria, using safe food handling and storage practices. The Kitchen Aide will also support a variety of activities within a specific program area, such as Academic Success, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, Outdoor/Environment and Physical Education. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of positive youth development: Promotes and stimulate program participation. Provides guidance and role modeling to members. Focus on maintaining a safe, positive atmosphere for all youth. Exhibits a warm, concerned attitude toward youth that uses a positive approach in dealing with individuals as well as groups of children. Washes pots, pans, dishes and utensils and tidies cooking area. Transports food from one location to another. Assists in serving meals to youth in appropriate portions. Maintains a safe food preparation area following local, state and federal guidelines Additional Responsibilities The assignment of these additional duties will be dependent on the length of the shift: Cleans and sanitizes work area to Health Department standards and disposes of refuse. Other duties, as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong ability to engage and connect with youth in a group setting Knowledge of the uses of kitchen utensils and equipment and their operation thereof. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other staff. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare various foods. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to interact with children and youth in a manner that clearly conveys warm regard, respect, and care. Education & Work Experience Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience. Advanced training in cooking preparation/safety desired. Sufficient education to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance. Fundamental Relationships Maintains regular, daily interaction with youth and supervisors to provide support, share information, and reinforce program goals. Builds and sustains positive relationships with school staff, member families, and the broader community, reflecting the values and mission of the organization. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Physical Demands Regularly: walking, bending, reaching, stretching, hearing, seeing, repetitive hand motions. Occasionally: lifting up to 50 lbs. and stationary work. Equipment Use Regularly: kitchen equipment, phones, motor vehicles and two-way radios. Occasionally:, hand tools, audio visual equipment, copy/scan machines, and hand tools Work Environment Regularly: indoor and outdoor work in varied weather conditions, team and independent work, noisy conditions. Occasionally: odors, varied lighting, small and/or enclosed spaces. Mental Demands Regularly: managing workplace stressors. Occasionally: handling belligerent behaviors. Substance Exposure & Protective Equipment Occasionally: exposure to chemicals or body fluids, use of protective gear (gloves, masks, etc.).
