About The Position

Become a Contracted Worker with the Area Office on Aging as a Kinship Childcare Worker! Toledo, Ohio | Contracted, $20.00 Non-Exempt | Department: Kinship Reports To: Kinship Supervisor Function This is a contracted, non-employee position. The Contracted Childcare Worker provides safe, structured, and developmentally appropriate childcare services for children and youth while kinship caregivers (grandparents and other relatives) participate in Kinship Navigator Program activities. This role supports kinship families by creating a nurturing, trauma-informed environment that prioritizes child safety, emotional well-being, and positive engagement. Working in collaboration with AOoA staff, caregivers, and other contracted childcare workers, this position ensures children are supervised and supported so caregivers can fully engage in program services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children or youth in a childcare, educational, or community-based setting.
  • Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities for children and youth.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions with child safety and well-being as the top priority.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and caregivers.
  • Sensitivity to diverse family structures and the unique needs of kinship families.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance.
  • Must complete a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check , criminal background check , drug/alcohol screening , and meet Ohio Department of Aging certification requirements .
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and perform physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, and active supervision.
  • Position requires local travel for program-related duties, events, or training as needed.
  • This is a community-based role and is not remote .
  • Position is contingent upon the availability of funding for the Kinship Navigator Program.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children and youth during Kinship Navigator Program sessions to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate activities and programming for children and youth.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment sensitive to the needs of kinship families.
  • Monitor children’s behavior and respond appropriately using positive guidance and de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain respectful and open communication with kinship caregivers regarding their children’s participation.
  • Coordinate with AOoA staff and other contracted childcare workers to support program activities and logistics.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision during transitions, activities, and breaks.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with AOoA, HIPAA, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Prepare materials and supplies needed for childcare activities.
  • Complete contracted services in accordance with AOoA schedules, expectations, and performance standards.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Kinship Navigator Program Supervisor.
