About The Position

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, a Teacher is responsible for facilitating student success and growth in academic, social, and interpersonal skills. This is accomplished through the implementation of district-approved curriculum, the assessment and documentation of student progress, and the creation of a safe and flexible learning environment. A Teacher will address the diverse educational needs of students and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and administration on progress, expectations, and goals.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and curriculum design.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of subject matter including, but not limited to, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Sciences and other relevant content areas.
  • Proficient with data analysis and the ability to formulate action plans to address student needs.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to engage in self-reflection and self-evaluation to foster professional growth.
  • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license for the appropriate subject/grade level
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education, liberal arts or sciences or the subject relevant field.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, administers, and evaluates a curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. The curriculum may include but is not limited to English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Sciences, with modifications for students with special needs.
  • Creates and promotes a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, including students with special needs. This environment fosters student engagement, active participation, and learning.
  • Develops and translates lesson plans into meaningful learning experiences. Utilizes instructional materials and classroom time effectively to challenge students and encourage critical thinking.
  • Continuously assesses student progress, adjusting instructional methods to meet the varied learning styles and needs of students, including those with special needs. Provides constructive feedback to students to support academic growth.
  • Promotes and maintains effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Encourages parental involvement in the educational process and communicates progress, behavior, and goals regularly.
  • Establishes and maintains classroom expectations for behavior, ensuring a respectful and functional learning environment aligned with school and district policies.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge through workshops, seminars, and self-reflection. Stays current with educational research, best practices, and curriculum developments.
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers and staff to evaluate and assess curriculum, share best practices, and participate in school committees and professional development.
  • Prepares students for standardized testing and ensures appropriate adaptation of curriculum to maximize achievement and administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, behavior, academic achievement, and progress in line with district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Participates in school-wide events and extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Supervises students during non-classroom activities (e.g., lunch, recess, field trips).
  • Coordinates with school staff to select and requisition appropriate textbooks, instructional materials, equipment, and supplies and maintains inventory records.
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
