About The Position

The Kindergarten Assistant will provide academic, socio-emotional, and/or behavioral support at the direction of the kindergarten teacher. The job will include instructional and supervisory responsibilities while working with students one-on-one, with a small group of students, or with a whole group of students. The Kindergarten Assistant will report to and is evaluated by the principal and kindergarten teacher(s).

Requirements

  • Passed the ParaPro Test with a score of 457 or higher.
  • Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Writes simple correspondence.
  • Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Adds and subtracts two-digit numbers and multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s.
  • Performs these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
  • Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Adaptability: Adapts to changes in the work environment. Manages competing demands. Accepts criticism and feedback. Changes approach or method to best fit the situation.
  • Attendance & Punctuality: Schedules time off in advance. Begins working on time. Keeps absences within guidelines. Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent. Arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
  • Cooperation: Establishes and maintains effective relations. Exhibits tact and consideration. Displays positive outlook and pleasant manner. Offers assistance and support to co-workers. Works cooperatively in group situations. Works actively to resolve conflicts.
  • Dependability: Responds to requests for service and assistance. Follows instructions and responds to management direction. Takes responsibility for own actions. Meets attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Personal Appearance: Dresses appropriately for position. Keeps self well-groomed.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. Physical presence is expected as part of a reliable and predictable pattern of attendance.

  • Maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares materials for instruction.
  • Provides planning time for teachers, including but not limited to outdoor activities, rhythm activities, and story time.
  • Provides lunchroom assistance.
  • Supervises school-based routines, such as dismissal, restroom, etc.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
