Sinai Akiba Academy is seeking qualified K-8 substitute teachers for the 2025-2026 academic year for Jewish Studies classes. A substitute teacher supervises and teaches students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead class. This position requires availability to accept assignments when scheduled in advance or, occasionally, at the last minute. The ideal candidate is responsive and will demonstrate: responsibility, safe management of students, emotional intelligence, a growth mindset, self-motivation, positive energy, strong interpersonal skills, a service-oriented and team approach to work, approachability, flexibility, and clear communication skills.   • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize disruptions, and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, at recess/lunch, and during dismissal
  • Provide a written report of the day to the regular teacher
  • Learn, use, and apply technology as required by School to enhance learning, provide feedback to students and parents, and engage with colleagues
  • Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor and/or the Head of School in support of the school’s mission
  • Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field and should have previous teaching experience
  • Hebrew speaking (at a fluent level to be a teacher and at a basic or intermediate level to be a teaching assistant)
  • Knowledge of Torah, Jewish holidays, and Jewish history in order to understand a lesson plan and be able to effectively lead the students in the plan
  • Ability to lift and move objects of up to 20 pounds, including holding and carrying children when necessary for the health, safety or well-being of the child
  • Substantial time spent standing, kneeling, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and moving up and down stairs
  • Responsibilities include moving quickly with children and setting up and moving classroom equipment, including large items such as children's desks and chairs
  • Assist in getting children in and out of cars and directing cars in an underground parking facility
