About The Position

This position is responsible for monitoring and operating the Dry Kilns to ensure optimal product quality and production. Measuring the moisture content of the lumber using various techniques and make the proper adjustments to the temperature, humidity and ventilation of the kilns to ensure the product reaches its specific moisture content requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience of verifiable lumber dry kiln operations experience, preferably with hog fuel fired or natural gas fired boiler systems.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of kiln mechanics; including but not limited to steam traps, coils, vents, baffles, sensors, structure, and steam delivery systems.
  • Working knowledge of kiln controllers.
  • Ability to develop and apply lumber drying schedules.
  • Strong analytical abilities and working knowledge of lumber handling and kiln processes.
  • Excellent team-building and motivational skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Previous wood products manufacturing management experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean manufacturing/5S experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety regulations, complete all safety training, and wear required safety equipment per related safety SOP'S.
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership of crew members to support the green stacker, boiler and kiln drying operation.
  • Supervise the drying and storing operations of in-process lumber products.
  • Provide training and direction of kiln loading and offloading to maintain quality, improve drying and prevent lumber damage.
  • Maintain lumber flow through the dry kilns to meet production schedules and prevent damage from weather conditions.
  • Provide leadership in the areas of planning, assigning, and directing work, training, evaluating employee performance and holding crew members accountable for their performance.
  • Analyze kiln operations and implement process improvement initiatives to maximize kiln efficiency.
  • Oversee kiln drying product quality, housekeeping, and maintenance of the lumber dry kilns.

  • Takes measures to proactively address all concerns.
  • Internally the position interfaces with co-workers and employees to ensure the smooth operation of department and mill
  • This position has the authority to train and direct the workforce within the prescribed policies, procedures, and regulation of the operation
  • Communicate with employees daily in person
  • Other Duties as needed.
