About The Position

The Kids and Teens Program Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging, age-appropriate instruction for Bergen Community College’s After School Enrichment Program and Kids and Teens Summer Learning Academy. These programs, offered at both the Paramus and Hackensack campuses, provide youth with enriching academic and creative experiences that foster curiosity, confidence, and skill development. Instructors play a key role in creating dynamic lessons, supporting student learning, and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment. This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about inspiring young learners through hands-on activities and interactive teaching. POSITION SUMMARY Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Plan and teach interactive, high-quality lessons for: After School Enrichment Program (4:30–6:30 p.m., school year), Kids and Teens Summer Learning Academy (full-day or half-day sessions) Develop age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with program goals. Incorporate hands-on learning, projects, and experiential activities. Create an inclusive classroom environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Use varied teaching strategies to inspire student engagement and motivation. Facilitate activities that enhance learning, exploration, and personal growth. Monitor student progress and provide constructive, supportive feedback. Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning styles and abilities. Promote student confidence, participation, and skill development. Ensure the safety and well-being of students throughout classes and activities. Foster a supportive, respectful learning atmosphere. Address behavioral concerns appropriately in collaboration with program supervisors. Work closely with program coordinators, instructors, and support staff to maintain smooth program operations. Participate in required staff meetings and training sessions. Provide clear, professional communication regarding student progress, classroom activities, and program updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching or working with children in educational or enrichment settings.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • New Jersey Educator Certification preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative and innovative approach to teaching and youth engagement.
  • Ability to adapt to student needs and diverse learning styles.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

  • New Jersey Educator Certification preferred.
