About The Position

The Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics (KICP) at the University of Chicago invites applications for the KICP Postdoctoral Research Fellowship program. This fellowship is designed for scientists who have received a PhD in physics, astrophysics, astronomy, or related fields between May 2021 and September 2025. Successful applicants will engage in original research across various domains of cosmological physics, which may include experimental, observational, numerical, or theoretical approaches. The KICP Fellows are appointed to renewable one-year terms, with the possibility of extending up to three years, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in cosmology. KICP Fellows are integral members of the KICP community, which fosters an interdisciplinary environment that unites physicists and astronomers, including experimentalists, observers, simulators, and theorists. This collaborative atmosphere is aimed at stimulating new ideas and advancing the forefront of cosmological research. Current research topics at the institute encompass a wide range of areas, including the inflationary era, dark energy, dark matter, experimental and theoretical studies of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), and the analysis of cosmological data from large-scale structure surveys, particularly the Dark Energy Survey, as well as type Ia supernovae. Other areas of focus include gravitational lensing, gravitational-wave studies, observational cosmology, experimental and theoretical particle astrophysics, near-field cosmology, and both direct and indirect detection of dark matter. The KICP also hosts an active program of visitors, symposia, and meetings, along with opportunities for education and outreach. Diversity and inclusion are core values at the KICP, and all members are expected to adhere to the institute's Community Values. Interested candidates can find more information about the KICP on its official website. To apply for the KICP Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, candidates must complete the online application form, which requires email contact information for three references who can provide letters of support. Supplemental materials, including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research statement detailing research accomplishments and plans, and a list of publications, should be submitted as PDF files through the application form. The positions will remain open until filled, but applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications by October 31, 2024, and ensure that three letters of recommendation are received by November 15, 2024. The review of applications will commence on November 18, 2024, with positions expected to begin in the Fall of 2025.
