About The Position

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's Keystone Internship Program offers students a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in public history. This internship focuses on traditional museum education at the Erie Maritime Museum, allowing interns to enhance their skills while contributing to the preservation and sharing of Pennsylvania's heritage.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university during the internship.
• Must be majoring, minoring, or have a concentration in History, Public History, Museum Studies, or Education.
• Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and train others on interpretive tours of the museum.
• Prepare and deliver training on the use of interpretive props for museum programming.
• Plan, develop, and implement written curriculum and activities for on-site and outreach programming.
• Prepare and distribute marketing materials for education programming and exhibits.
• Write and revise interpretive text panels and social media posts.
• Assist with scheduling, training, and managing volunteer docents.
• Gain exposure to other museum functions such as retail sales, ticketing, curatorial, and archival research.
• Assist the Museum Educator with managing the museum's 150 volunteer complement.
