About The Position

Dr. Boyd's Veterinary Resort in San Diego is seeking a part-time Kennel Technician who is passionate about working with dogs. The position requires availability on weekends and holidays as needed. The primary responsibility of the Kennel Technician is to ensure the proper care of kennel clients and maintain the cleanliness of the hospital area. This includes a variety of tasks aimed at providing a safe and healthy environment for the animals in care.

Responsibilities

  • Greets clients when they drop off and pick-up their dogs and obtains information regarding the care of their dog.
  • Responsible for all intake and discharge procedures to ensure efficient flow and patient care.
  • Reviews all charts for patients for accuracy and completion, confirming and updating any discrepancies.
  • Maintains daily operational efficiencies and flow.
  • Schedules the day to ensure all services are completed.
  • Provides tours to owners and clients as needed.
  • Observes and reports yard and pack behavior, monitoring yard to ensure safety of all animals.
  • Supervises and interacts with dogs both inside the facility and outside in the yards.
  • Ensures pet health and safety by reporting any abnormalities or concerns to hospital staff and/or pet owner.
  • Walks animals as needed.
  • Provides food and water to animals in the hospital.
  • Washes and puts away dishes and laundry.
  • Stocks and refills supplies as needed.
  • Cleans and puts away litter pans; provides litter boxes to all cats.
  • Documents chart daily on food intake, excretions, and notes any abnormalities, notifying the Technician or Veterinarians of problems immediately.
  • Performs baths to animals in accordance with owners' directions on chart.
  • Cleans bedrooms, floors, and 'run' areas on a daily basis.
  • Maintains cleanliness of facility by vacuuming, washing floors, dusting, scrubbing walls, and removing trash and animal waste.
  • Stocks food cupboards and front food displays as needed.
  • Communicates with clients regarding living conditions and medical status of animals.
  • Retrieves stock from storage area and receiving area to sufficiently stock shelves.
  • Performs light maintenance duties such as mopping, sweeping, cleaning windows, taking out garbage, and cleaning bathrooms on a daily basis.
  • Prices merchandise according to pricing schedule as assigned.
  • Maintains a neat, organized, and clean atmosphere at all times.
  • Ensures all patients are supplied with clean and dry bedding.
  • Performs departmental housekeeping duties.
  • Fills in at other departments as needed.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures, giving special attention to safety regulations.
  • Demonstrates affection for animals.
  • Demonstrates respect for team members.

Benefits

  • Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience.
  • Hourly pay rate of $18 - $19 / hour.
