About The Position

Barkfield Animal Hospital is a trusted veterinary facility dedicated to providing exceptional care for pets with our daycare, boarding, and veterinary services. Our mission is to create a safe, loving environment where pets can thrive. We are currently seeking passionate individuals to join our team of pet care professionals. We are looking for one (1) full-time Kennel Assistant to support our daycare and boarding services. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for animals, a strong work ethic, and the ability to maintain a clean and sanitary facility. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, with shifts available between 7 AM and 6 PM , including weekends and holidays .

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kennel, daycare, or veterinary hospital is preferred, especially with both dogs and cats.
  • A genuine love for pets and a commitment to their health and happiness.
  • Reliable and dependable with a robust work ethic, ready to handle the physical demands of the job.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, particularly in cleaning and maintaining a sanitary environment for our furry guests.
  • Must be able to work independently while effectively collaborating with team members and communicating with clients.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for most of the day and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, including the ability to work some weekends and holidays (e.g., Spring Break, Easter, July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s).
  • Reliable transportation is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Safely supervise and care for groups of dogs and cats, ensuring their well-being, safety, and comfort during play and rest periods.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic environment by regularly cleaning kennels, play areas, and common spaces. A significant portion of this role will involve cleaning and sanitation tasks.
  • Provide proper feeding, watering, and care for all animals, following specific dietary and health protocols set by our veterinary team.
  • Observe pets for signs of illness or distress and promptly report any concerns to the veterinary staff or management.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records for each pet’s stay, including feeding schedules, health observations, and behavioral notes.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by effectively communicating with pet owners about their pets’ needs, behaviors, and well-being.
