About The Position

The Tobacco Treatment Specialist position within the Public Health AmeriCorps Program is designed for individuals passionate about public health and community service. This role focuses on providing tobacco treatment support to residents of Wyandotte County, particularly targeting youth through established RESIST Chapters. Members will engage in educational initiatives, administrative support, and community outreach to promote tobacco cessation and advocate for healthier lifestyles. Requirements

• Be at least 17 years of age
• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to satisfy National Service Criminal History Check
• Availability for specified service hours including some weekends and evenings

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree
• Experience in public health or community organization
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google software
• Intermediate skills in marketing platforms like Canva
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working with adolescents

Responsibilities

• Participate in Community Partner meetings
• Complete required trainings including HIPAA and Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification
• Provide vaping education and counseling support to students caught vaping
• Assist residents in treating tobacco and vaping use addiction
• Support the Tobacco Program Coordinator in evaluating and improving counseling workflows
• Conduct post surveys to assess program effectiveness
• Plan and execute Anti-Tobacco promotional events
• Engage in health education at community events
• Conduct research and create marketing materials
• Track referrals to tobacco cessation programs
• Assist students in developing presentations on tobacco harms
• Support RESIST Chapters in event planning and presentations
• Collaborate on communications campaigns for tobacco cessation services
• Develop informational materials on tobacco and vaping harms
