About The Position

Kaleidoscope is a free art-making space for kids and their accompanying adults. The Hallmark Visitors Center (HVC) is a free exhibit space that shares the story of the Hallmark company. The two sites represent and share Hallmark’s passion for enriching people’s lives by helping them connect, communicate, and create. As part of the team that shapes and leads approaches that create positive, memorable experiences for kids and their families, the Kaleidoscope Art Programs Lead is responsible for developing and facilitating a variety of high-quality programs and activities in the Kaleidoscope studio and online. These programs support Kaleidoscope’s mission by extending Kaleidoscope’s reach, deepening guest participation, and empowering kids’ creativity in new and interesting ways. Note: This is a non‑exempt role. The position provides functional coordination of activities but does not have authority over people management, hiring, termination, or pay decisions. This is a full-time, Tuesday – Saturday position, ideal for someone who brings creativity, experience, and passion for working with kids.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent
  • Minimum of two years professional experience teaching or leading programs for elementary-age children in formal or informal environments, including school classrooms, art centers, museums, or other cultural institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience that reflects a strong foundation in art-making practices, a variety of techniques, and a passion for creative expression.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout studio sessions for up to 90 minutes, and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in elementary education, art, child development, or a related field.
  • Professional experience designing and delivering art programs for elementary-aged children, both in-person and in digital formats.
  • Strong understanding of child development and learning strategies employed in a variety of learning environments
  • Able to effectively engage and communicate with individuals and groups of various ages and backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of Missouri and Kansas start art education standards, with the ability to integrate them into program design.
  • Team-lead experience, including guiding and supporting staff.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in face-paced environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively move between public-facing work and office work with ease.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Kaleidoscope Experience Supervisor and other team members to develop special on-site programs. These may include seasonal, anniversary, or other themed activities for the Kaleidoscope studio, special programs for specific audiences (ages or needs), as well as creative recharges for teachers and Hallmark employee and business/partner groups.
  • Guides the development of compelling content – including the Kaleidoscope At Home series – for social media and digital platforms, ensuring messaging reflects program vision and drives audience engagement.
  • Applies insights from observation, feedback, and education trends to collaborate with the team in continuously improving programs and developing innovative approaches that enhance guest experience and deepen participation.
  • Leads open-ended art programs and experiences for kids ages 4 – 12.
  • Greets guests and handles visitor-service related tasks when working at Kaleidoscope’s front desk.
  • Maintains, organizes, and inventories program materials and supplies, implementing systems to keep things running smoothly.
  • Collaborates with Kaleidoscope team members on studio set-up and clean-up throughout the day.
  • Ensures a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where kids and families feel inspired to use their full imaginations.
  • Supports Kaleidoscope’s Volunteer Program and collaborates with the team to deliver a fun annual volunteer awards luncheon.
  • Supports special events, outreach efforts, and creative recharges for teachers, employees and business/partner groups.
  • Supports Saturday operations in coordination with the Manager on Duty to help ensure the studio runs smoothly.
  • Provides guidance, support, and direction for Saturday staff, helping them deliver top-notch guest experiences.
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative team environment that keeps the energy high and the creativity flowing.
  • Maintains accurate records of special Saturday programs and attendance.
  • Ensures proper start-up/shutdown procedures of studio and lobby are followed.
