About The Position

The Handler is responsible for screening cargo in compliance with TSA regulations, ensuring safety and security in the transportation of goods. This role involves training and certification, as well as the care and maintenance of an assigned explosive detection canine. The Handler must be adaptable to various working conditions and schedules, including potential travel.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • One to two years of documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment
  • Ability to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment
  • Ability to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge within four to six weeks of employment
  • Ability to obtain a Security Threat Assessment (STA) for Airport Badge within four to six weeks of employment
  • Adequate transportation to transport assigned canine and crate to/from work location
  • Ability to pass applicable Contract Testing and Certifications within four to six weeks of employment
  • Valid driver's license and clear driving record for the last three years
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities
  • Problem-solving skills with an analytical thought process
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods in all weather conditions
  • Ability to perform various physical activities such as sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling

Responsibilities

  • Participate in CCSP related training to search cargo and identify explosive threats
  • Conduct authorized representative duties related to X-Ray, physical search, and explosive trace detection as needed
  • Perform Handler duties while commanding a trained explosive working dog
  • Maintain training records for the assigned canine
  • Care for and maintain the assigned canine, ensuring it can live in the employee's residence
  • Ensure the canine living area meets inspection standards
  • Maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances
  • Operate a company vehicle during on-site training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
