About The Position

The Security Department plays a vital role in maintaining safe, secure, and respectful environments across Father Joe’s Villages campuses. Through access control, patrol services, and emergency response, the department supports the well-being of clients, staff, and visitors while modeling professionalism, sound judgment, and respect in every interaction. As a K9 Security Officer I, you will help maintain safe and secure environments across Father Joe’s Villages facilities through patrol, access control, and narcotic detection. You will respond to incidents, support emergency situations, and care for a certified canine partner. This role is ideal for someone who is disciplined, observant, and committed to balancing security with compassion and respect.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Active California Guard Card certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of security-related experience demonstrating responsibility in areas such as facility monitoring, access control, patrol services, incident documentation, de-escalation, emergency response, and collaboration with staff or community members in settings such as housing programs, social services, healthcare, education, or similar environments.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard communication tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt in dynamic environments.
  • This role requires regular driving between worksites and client locations. A valid California driver’s license and the ability to meet organizational driving standards are required.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior K9 handling experience or specialized security training, preferred.
  • Experience responding to emergencies in security, public safety, or similar environments.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials identification and safety procedures.
  • Experience working in mission-driven, community-based, or campus-style environments.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mobile patrols and respond to incidents by operating a vehicle with a trained canine in accordance with safety and organizational standards.
  • Respond to and document security incidents using approved intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Assist in emergency situations, including medical incidents, fires, disturbances, and evacuations.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide daily care, handling, and training for a certified canine partner to maintain operational readiness and certification.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and emergency personnel and complete accurate incident documentation.
  • Provide basic life support (BLS), including CPR and first aid, until emergency responders arrive.
  • Complete required trainings and follow departmental and organizational policies.
  • Perform other related duties to support security operations.
