About The Position

K-8 Summer Academy offers students the opportunity to choose from four experiences designed to support both academic and social-emotional growth: Math, Literacy, Design, and Wellness. The K-8 Summer Academy Teacher is a creative, learner-centered educator who will facilitate summer learning by co-teaching two 90-minute multi-age classes, each focusing on a particular learner experience: math, literacy, design, and wellness. Applicants will identify their preferred grade level and experience as a part of the application process. Math Experience: Embracing Challenge and Building Confidence with Number Sense and Problem Solving Current roles that might be interested in leading this experience: K-5 classroom teacher, 6-12 math, 6-12 science teacher, special educator, math specialist, gifted specialist Literacy Experience: Growing as Readers, Writers, and Storytellers Current roles that might be interested in leading this experience: K-5 classroom teacher, 6-12 literacy teacher, 6-12 social studies, world language, drama, speech and debate teacher, librarian, special education educator, reading specialist, literacy coach, gifted specialist, multilingual learner specialist Design Experience: Working together to engineer solutions to solve meaningful problems through design thinking. Current roles that might be interested in leading this experience: K-5 classroom teacher, 6-12 social studies, 6-12 science, art, CTE teacher, special education educator, educational technology specialist, gifted specialist Wellness Experience: Building physical and mental wellness for understanding ourselves, connecting with others, and making positive choices. Current roles that might be interested in leading this experience: K-12 music, art, health/PE, counselor, social worker, special education educator, gifted specialist

Requirements

  • Missouri Teaching Certificate
  • The position is open to internal candidates only. If a suitable internal candidate is not found, the position may be posted externally.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate professionally with their co-teachers in a multi-age classroom (incoming first/second, third/fourth, fifth/sixth, seventh/eighth grade students for the 26-27 school year)
  • Participate in curriculum design (attend two three-hour PD/Curriculum Development Meetings in the spring)
  • Attend orientation and set up learning spaces on Wednesday, June 3
  • Develop academic and social-emotional student growth goals
  • Monitor student progress and communicate student strengths and growth with families, and past/future teachers
  • Provide opportunities for learner support and enrichment within the classroom
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming learning environment
  • Celebrate and share learning with families in a showcase experience at the end of each two-week session
  • Create take-home options for continued summer learning
