About The Position

The candidate is responsible for creating a safe, encouraging, enjoyable, and respectful learning environment that fosters, promotes, and develops the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional health of children. The candidate employs a variety of age and developmentally appropriate instructional methods and materials designed to meet the needs of all learners. The ideal candidate collaborates well with colleagues to teach health education and physical education to a diverse group of students. The candidate can successfully establish strong relationships with students, parents, and the community. The candidate has an understanding of Skills-Based Health Education and a willingness to participate in professional development to improve their practice. This a 1.0 FTE wellness (physical education and health education position)

Requirements

  • Valid Mass. DESE License i n Health and Consumer Sciences or Physical Education.
  • All employees must be vaccinated and maintain full vaccination as a condition of employment or work as an on-site vendor/contractor, unless they receive approval for a documented medical or religious exemption in accordance with relevant state and/or federal law.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain standards for student behavior that create a healthy, safe, and enjoyable learning environment.
  • Use trauma-sensitive approaches to ensure student safety.
  • Continuously examines programming for cultural competency and implements equitable experiences for all students.
  • Plan, organize and deliver lessons aligned with the Physical Education National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes for students in grades K-8.
  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and provide safety checks on equipment, gymnasium, and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Implement authentic assessments to determine student growth and effectively communicate feedback and data to students, parents, administration, and the community, as necessary.
  • Implement age and developmentally appropriate health education program that utilizes skills-based instruction and meets the needs of all students.
  • Incorporate a variety of instructional methods, technology, and media best suited for health education and physical education content and skills.
  • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities.
  • Attend and participate in department and curriculum development meetings.
  • Optional stipended intramural/extramural programming and implementation.
