About The Position

Overview of position: The K-4 Special Education & Behavior Support Teacher serves a dual role supporting students with disabilities and providing targeted behavioral and social-emotional interventions for early elementary students. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all district and state special education requirements while delivering high-quality, individualized instruction aligned to student IEP goals. This teacher will deliver IEP service minutes through both push-in and pull-out services, design individualized instructional plans, and implement targeted academic and behavioral interventions. A significant portion of the role includes supporting K-1 students in developing self-regulation, social-emotional skills, and school-readiness behaviors to ensure successful access to the general education classroom. The successful candidate must be highly organized, knowledgeable in special education compliance, skilled in behavioral interventions, and able to collaborate effectively with families, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams. Pay and Benefits: Employees at DLS are compensated in accordance with other Denver-area charter schools. The annual salary of $55,000 - $57,555 will be prorated to reflect a mid-year start. 8 days of PTO with an option to roll days to the following school year. PTO will be prorated to reflect a mid-year start. Health, vision, and dental insurance subsidized by the school. Employee assistance program and online mental health support paid by the school. Early student release each Friday to offer opportunities for professional development and collaboration. Discounted rates for after-school Fun Clubs of employees’ children. Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of special education law, compliance, and documentation
  • Ability to write and manage Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Experience implementing behavioral interventions and tiered supports
  • Data collection and progress monitoring skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Positive collaboration and communication skills
  • Background in RBT, BCBA, ABA behavioral specialist roles (ex: RBT, BCBA, ABA)
  • Experience using Enrich or similar special education data systems
  • Experience in early elementary (K-1) social-emotional and behavior support
  • Experience partnering with immersion or general education teachers
  • Ability to work across campuses if needed
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Valid Colorado Special Education teaching license OR eligibility to obtain licensure
  • 2–4 years of experience in special education (strong candidates with less experience may be considered if licensed or licensure-eligible)
  • Demonstrated experience delivering IEP services and managing compliance timelines

Responsibilities

  • Deliver IEP service minutes through push-in and pull-out services aligned with student goals and service plans.
  • Design instructional plans and interventions to meet individual student academic and behavioral goals.
  • Support implementation of accommodations and modifications within the general education classroom and coach teachers as needed.
  • Develop and implement Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), including data collection and team collaboration.
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with related service providers to ensure students receive appropriate supports aligned to their goals.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and communicate clearly, respectfully, and solution-focused with families and staff.
  • Provide direct support for K-1 students related to social-emotional development, self-regulation, and skills needed to safely access the general education classroom.
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the Student Support Team.
