The City University of New York’s Office of K16 Initiatives advances systemic change by building innovative partnerships that promote educational equity. Our mission is to empower young New Yorkers to envision, prepare for, and achieve successful futures by dismantling structural barriers and expanding access to college and career pathways. Serving more than 100,000 students annually, K16 Initiatives operates at the intersection of the nation’s largest public university system (CUNY) and its largest public school system (NYC Public Schools). This unique partnership creates a powerful platform for impact across the K16 continuum. The Teaching & Learning Team designs and delivers high-impact educational experiences across K16 programs, with particular emphasis on dual enrollment initiatives, including CUNY Early College High Schools and College Now. Reporting to the Senior Director of Teaching & Learning, the Curriculum and Instructional Specialist supports the development and implementation of professional learning experiences, instructional resources, and coaching aligned with K16’s mission to advance college readiness and student success. Current initiatives include: The K16 Pedagogy Fellowship for dual enrollment faculty The Deeper Learning Initiative, which supports project-based learning in CUNY Early College High Schools Debating U.S. History, an inquiry-based curriculum and professional learning program for high school U.S. History teachers The Curriculum and Instructional Specialist will join a four-person team to design, manage, and implement professional learning, instructional resources, and coaching that strengthen engagement, rigor, and equitable access. This work prepares students to succeed in college-level coursework and develop the skills, confidence, and preparation to thrive in higher education and careers.
