About The Position

Apple Pi Education is seeking College Student Mentors to join our Math Your Mind Mentorship Program. This role is ideal for college students interested in education, STEM, youth mentorship, or community engagement. Mentors work alongside lead facilitators to support K-12 students during interactive math activities and help create a positive, encouraging learning environment. Your primary goal will be to support students in building their mathematics identities, helping them see themselves as capable and confident problem solvers.

Requirements

  • Education: Current college student. Majors in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Education, Psychology, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Eager to inspire the next generation of mathematical minds.
  • Positive attitude and strong communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with students in grades K–12 (specifically grades 4–7).
  • Genuine interest in math, learning, and youth development.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the school site (for in-person sessions).
  • Access to a reliable computer and internet connection (for online sessions).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: Experience working with children or teens (tutoring, camps, mentoring, coaching, etc.) is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor Small Groups: Work with 2–10 students at a time to provide focused support and engagement.
  • Support Weekly Sessions: Commit to working with students once a week to ensure consistency and relationship building.
  • Facilitate Learning: Support lead facilitators during after-school math workshops (in-person or online), focusing primarily on grades 4–7 while supporting K-12 students generally.
  • Build Confidence: Assist students during hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving challenges, helping them build a strong positive identity around mathematics.
  • Be a Role Model: Share your personal story and interests (hobbies, sports, arts) to show that being "math smart" goes hand-in-hand with being a fun, well-rounded individual.
  • Provide Encouragement: Offer individualized support to students as needed, modeling curiosity, teamwork, and positive behavior.
  • Operational Support: Help with classroom setup, material organization, cleanup, and monitoring student engagement.
