About The Position

This position will be supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and requires a network engineer with in-depth Linux configuration experience. A full understanding of computer system design and implementation is required. The candidate should have knowledge of hardware electronic components, hardware design, development, and system implementation requirements and will also require practical networking and/or telecommunications experience. Able to provide a full range of network systems engineering support services, including but not limited to analyzing and optimizing network architecture and performance, installing, and configuring bridges, routers, hubs, switches, gateways, and other network devices for optimal performance and supporting connectivity to other networks and facilities. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for a Position of Public Trust. Must be a US Citizen or 3-year permanent resident. Facility Location: William J. Hughes Technical Center, NJ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems or a related field of study and a minimum of 10 years of relevant NAS experience or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems or a related field of study and a minimum of 8 years of relevant NAS experience. Understanding of IP networking concepts. Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls. Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools. Understanding of network security best practices. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. T1s, Ethernet, Cisco routers and switches. Experience with FAA radars or testing of those systems. Time-division Multiplexing (TDM) technologies preferred. Ability to work off-shift hours. The successful candidate must be local to the FAA's William J Hughes Technical Center in Egg Harbor Twp, NJ. This is onsite position. Occasional travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems or a related field of study and a minimum of 10 years of relevant NAS experience or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems or a related field of study and a minimum of 8 years of relevant NAS experience.
  • Understanding of IP networking concepts.

  • Network concepts and protocols knowledge a must
  • Experience installing, configuring and supporting IPS/IDS to ensure network security
  • Experience in configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting Cisco switches, routers, communications and connectivity
  • Good communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with FAA radars or testing of those systems.
  • Time-division Multiplexing (TDM) technologies preferred.
  • Ability to work off-shift hours.
