Medford SD 549C Job Description Our Mission: ALL Own Their Present and Future, ALL Are Known and Challenged, ALL Achieve Their Potential, ALL Options are Open and Hopeful Job Title: Coach - Junior Varsity Athletic - High School Classification: Licensed/Extra Comp Supervisor: Athletic Director Days: Athletic Season GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Junior Varsity Coach will coach the team at their school. At the same time, the athletes shall receive instruction that will lead to the formation of moral values, pride in accomplishment, good sportsmanship, self-discipline, and self-confidence. This job description intends to give sufficient guidance to function. A coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment in cases not explicitly covered. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Junior Varsity Athletic Coach is responsible to the Athletic Director and works cooperatively with the Head Coach. SUPERVISION GIVEN: The Junior Varsity Coach supervises participating athletes, managers, and student assistants. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General Knows Oregon School Activities Association rules and regulations and Southwest Conference Guidelines. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through appropriate channels. Knows effective safety procedures in their sport, plans and implements a program of instruction in safe practices. STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES Supports professional growth by attendance at clinics according to district clinic policy and funds available. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Principal and Athletic Director. ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES Assists the Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling and providing transportation. Checks the athletic schedule for conflicts and makes necessary confirmations. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled athletic events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Is responsible to the principal for compliance with the school district and OSAA requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent forms, insurance waivers, and academic/residence eligibility. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and facilities. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES Works with the Head Coach to provide training rules and any other unique sports regulations to each athlete considered a participant. Gives constant attention to an athlete's grades and conduct. Supervises student-athletes before, during, and after practices, contests, or while traveling and provides guidance and safeguards for each participant. Works cooperatively with the athletic trainer in injury, prevention, and the care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Ensures completion of paperwork on all athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the appropriate office within 24 hours of the injury. Directs student managers and statisticians. Works with Head Coach to determine discipline following State, District, and school guidelines, policies, and procedures. Teaches athletes rules and procedures concerning due process when enforcing discipline is necessary. Contacts parents when a student is dropped or ineligible for team rule infractions. FINANCE AND EQUIPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES Accountable for all supplies and equipment and reports the cost to the Activities Office of any equipment/supplies lost or not returned. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of fine and hold notices on lost or stolen equipment. Supervises equipment rooms, coach’s office, and the issue or requisition of equipment. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on the general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment. If custodians are not on duty, secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building. Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use. Requirements

  • Safety factors involved in the sport assigned.
  • Physical ability and limitations of the level they are teaching.
  • Medford School District Athletic Policies and OSAA Rules and Regulations.
  • Skills: Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with people.
  • Must demonstrate basic skills of sport to which assigned.
  • Must be able to organize, supervise, and evaluate the total sports program.
  • Attitudes : Must be positive.
  • Should be enthusiastic.
  • Should possess a willingness to cooperate and adjust to various situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coaching experience of sport to which assigned is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a participant in sport to which assigned preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Valid Oregon teacher certification is preferred.
