About The Position
The Assistant Baseball Coach at Pittsburgh Public Schools plays a vital role in supporting the head coach in the management and promotion of the high school baseball program. This position is directly accountable to the principal and collaborates closely with the faculty manager to ensure the program's success. The assistant coach is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to the sport, dedicating long hours and weekends to the program, which is essential for fostering a competitive and educational environment for student-athletes. Key responsibilities include teaching baseball techniques, rules, strategies, and sportsmanship to team members. The assistant coach will conduct pre-season and post-season conditioning programs, supervise safe practices and contests, and assess the talents and abilities of players. Additionally, the role involves promoting athletes to college recruiters and participating in recruitment efforts to build a strong team. The assistant coach must maintain uniforms, equipment, and school facilities, supervise team members during bus rides and in locker rooms, and monitor attendance, grades, and personal conduct of the players. The position also requires the ability to respond to player injuries with first aid techniques and to fulfill other duties as assigned by the principal. This role is crucial in shaping the athletes' experiences and ensuring a positive and productive baseball season.
