Job Description: General Description Responsible for the preparation of meals in the facility. Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the food preparation and dining area. This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures and standards. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. · Fulfill all duties related to his/her assignment as directed by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and the United States Department of Justice. This includes, but is not limited to, all policies in accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Texas Family Code, Bell County Employee Handbook, and Bell County Juvenile Services policies and procedures. · Keep the Food Services Manager advised of all critical situations that may arise, working as a team with all personnel. · Prepare daily meals for residents in accordance with the approved menu. · Possess the ability to prepare meals from scratch. · Ensure the cleanliness of the facility kitchen. · Possess knowledge of food safety standards. · Possess knowledge of institutional kitchen equipment and operations. · Ensure all food is available for daily meals, ordering for kitchen and detention. · Process and formulate monthly kitchen reports, and daily meal counts. · Meet and maintain training and certification requirements of Juvenile Supervision Officer. · Must have the ability to work with a diverse population. · Conduct searches as required to control contraband. · Work a schedule that will involve working weekends, evenings, or nights (shift work). · Always maintain his/her appearance and appropriate professional behavior. · Provides shift coverage as scheduled AND on an On-Call basis. · Address behavioral issues/concerns of residents to ensure compliance, to include assisting staff during any situation that requires the use of Handle with Care and the department approved behavior management program. · Work a schedule that will involve working weekends, evenings, or nights (shift work). · Supervise residents in program activities such as meals, showers, school, indoor and outdoor recreation, and parental visitation. · Perform housekeeping tasks as needed to maintain facility cleanliness. · Maintain daily activity logs and reports as required. · Write discipline and or incident reports as required. · Notify immediate supervisor at least two hours prior to shift if calling in sick. · Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Court, the Supervisor, Assistant Director, or Chief Juvenile Probation Officer.

Requirements

  • be at least 21 years of age
  • have no disqualifying criminal history
  • have no criminal history as described in §344.410(a) unless TJJD has reviewed it and determined the person is not ineligible for certification due to the criminal history
  • have acquired a high school diploma or its equivalent as specified in TAC§344.204
  • never have had any type of certification revoked by TJJD
  • complete the training required by TAC§344
  • pass the certification exam
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others.
  • Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves and others.
  • Must be able to effectively use computer software and data systems.
  • Must possess the physical stamina to address potentially hostile or physically aggressive clients and/or assist staff during any situation that requires the use of Handle with Care (the Department/Program recognized physical restraint/behavior modification system) and the department approved behavior management program.
  • Potential for driving long distances when providing transportation to youth in county vehicles.
  • Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Requires Juvenile Supervision Certification-to be obtained after employment.
  • Requires CPR/First Aid certification– to be obtained after employment.
  • Requires Handle with Care Certification– to be obtained after employment.
  • Food Handlers Certification
