Juvenile Services Counselor II - Child Welfare (Juvenile Court)

About The Position

Works under general supervision of an assigned supervisor or manager on cases involving dependent neglect, custody, visitation, abuse and other complaints regarding the welfare of children.

Requirements

Two (2) years of counseling experience, preferably with youth; AND
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, behavioral sciences or related field; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

Assesses high risk physical and sexual abuse cases and determines immediate actions for handling cases.
Counsels with clients to assess the type of services needed and schedules court hearings with children and their families regarding dependent/ neglect or abuse charges.
Creates both paper and computerized case files.
Prepares legal documents and reports for court presentations, present cases before the court.
Prepares packets for attorneys, Department of Children's Services and Court
Appoints Special Advocates involved in each case; collaborate with Juvenile Court legal staff.
Maintains social (family), delinquent, and dependent/neglect histories on assigned children and families.
Acts as liaisons with other agencies that are involved with families, such as school, welfare and family and counseling service providers.
Make referrals to agencies to meet the needs of individual cases.
Obtains supportive information such as school records, psychiatric psychological and medical reports in reference to assigned cases.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
