About The Position

Works under general supervision of an assigned supervisor or manager on cases involving dependent neglect, custody, visitation, abuse and other complaints regarding the welfare of children.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of counseling experience, preferably with youth; AND
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, behavioral sciences or related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses high risk physical and sexual abuse cases and determines immediate actions for handling cases.
  • Counsels with clients to assess the type of services needed and schedules court hearings with children and their families regarding dependent/ neglect or abuse charges.
  • Creates both paper and computerized case files.
  • Prepares legal documents and reports for court presentations, present cases before the court.
  • Prepares packets for attorneys, Department of Children's Services and Court
  • Appoints Special Advocates involved in each case; collaborate with Juvenile Court legal staff.
  • Maintains social (family), delinquent, and dependent/neglect histories on assigned children and families.
  • Acts as liaisons with other agencies that are involved with families, such as school, welfare and family and counseling service providers.
  • Make referrals to agencies to meet the needs of individual cases.
  • Obtains supportive information such as school records, psychiatric psychological and medical reports in reference to assigned cases.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
