About The Position

The Juvenile Probation Officer plays a crucial role in the Juvenile Probation Department of the 5th Judicial District Court, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Probation Office. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D.
  • Valid Nevada Drivers License.
  • POST Category II Basic Certification within 1 year of hire; prior law enforcement experience is preferred.
  • Comply with POST physical fitness requirements.
  • Full background and criminal history compliance check.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and evaluates information regarding alleged criminal offenses committed by juveniles; appears in court and makes decisions regarding release of juveniles from detention pending court appearance.
  • Reviews police reports and gathers information to develop recommendations for the disposition of the juvenile's case; prepares written reports for the court and makes recommendations.
  • Conducts cognitive training for juveniles regarding the juvenile justice system and programs offered by the juvenile probation department.
  • Supervises juveniles placed on probation by the court; conducts periodic meetings with juveniles to review activities and provides counseling.
  • Locates programs and services to assist juveniles, including community service and recreational programs; recruits and supervises volunteers for program activities.
  • Transports juveniles to detention facilities and evaluates their progress in facilities in and out of state.
  • Maintains detailed records of information received and daily contacts made with juveniles and others regarding each case.
  • Locates additional resources for juvenile programs and prepares narrative and statistical reports to funding agencies.
  • Maintains inventory of work equipment and ensures equipment is maintained/repaired.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
