Investigates youth’s background through contact with the youth, family, school and other agencies involved with the child to prepare youth cases for Juvenile Court actions; make recommendations to the court. Supervises youth on conditions of release, deferred prosecution supervision, court ordered probation conditions and in detention facility as needed. Prepares detention hearing reports, social histories and attends court hearings as needed. Maintains correspondence, written and verbal, with District Attorney, juvenile’s family, juvenile’s attorney, victims and collateral agencies. Maintains case files according to departmental policy and state standards. Conducts home, school visits and drug testing on youth under the supervision of the department. Apprehends absconders who have active directives to apprehend from the Juvenile Court. Administers the department’s GIP (Gang Intervention Program). Mentors and educates youth with gang involvement or at-risk to help divert youth from future negative peer associations and delinquent behaviors. Attends specialized training to stay updated on Regional and Statewide Gang Trends. Makes presentations to the community regarding Gangs. Acts as the departmental liaison with other law enforcement agencies. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or other state approved related field.
  • 2 years job related experience.
  • Good computer and organizational skills; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Certified Juvenile Probation Officer.
  • Available to work the following schedule: Wednesday-Friday - 10:00 am - 8:30 pm; Saturday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • On-call 24 hours a day and subject to irregular work hours.
  • An applicant may not have any of the following disqualifying criminal history: 1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole. 2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole. 3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
