About The Position

The incumbent in this position will provide social services to assist in the rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation or parole. Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving the formulation of rehabilitation plans and treatment of offenders, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of experience working directly with adolescents in criminal justice, social services, or education.
  • An associate degree and two years of experience working directly with adolescents.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of case management practices and interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to make recommendations concerning the processing and handling of delinquent youth.
  • Ability to develop case plans and communicate effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor's or higher degree.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are certified State of Florida Juvenile Probation Officers.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate contact with the youth, family, victims, and law enforcement when referrals are received.
  • Conduct home and school visits as part of the information gathering process.
  • Obtain and review collateral information such as abuse and neglect history, educational, mental health, substance use, and gang-related activity.
  • Conduct and document FDJJ screenings to identify the youth's risk and needs.
  • Formulate case management strategies based on assessments and information gathered.
  • Make service referrals to appropriate providers and follow up on actions.
  • Make supervision and treatment recommendations to the State Attorney and other judicial partners.
  • Complete screening instruments and reports used by the Department and/or the courts.
  • Act as the DJJ Representative during court hearings.
  • Prepare and maintain current social histories, court reports, referral letters, and related correspondence.
  • Testify at hearings when appropriate.
  • Prepare affidavits/petitions for Violation of Probation.
  • Conduct face-to-face contacts in various community-based settings.
  • Assist youth with obtaining appropriate mental health and substance abuse evaluations.
  • Provide crisis intervention and assist youth and family in accessing crisis intervention services.
  • Work with youth to establish personal goals/plans and provide ongoing support.
  • Respond to concerns, needs, and risks presented by youth, family, and the community.
  • Conduct staffing when benchmarks occur or when cases are complex.
  • Participate in transition and exit planning for youth pending release from residential programs.
  • Enter case management activities into the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS).
  • Ensure familiarity with community resources and provide input on service delivery issues.
