Requirements

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving perjury or false statements.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures for youth care and custody.
  • Skills in recognizing behavioral changes and addressing youth issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with youth or in a correctional environment.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues affecting youth.
  • Skills in conflict management and de-escalation techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure public safety by maintaining a safe and secure environment for youth.
  • Interact with juvenile offenders as the first point of contact for DJJ.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to youth in care.
  • Implement and uphold department policies and procedures regarding youth care and custody.
  • Conduct safety procedures, including strip searches, as necessary.
  • Recognize signs of potential suicide or depression in youth and address behavioral issues.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and records related to youth supervision.
