About The Position

The Juvenile Detention Specialist Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing the operations of the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility. This position is responsible for supervising Juvenile Detention Specialists and Team Leaders, ensuring the safety, care, and custody of the residents housed within the facility. The Supervisor is tasked with enforcing operational policies and procedures, which are essential for maintaining a secure and supportive environment for the juveniles. This role requires a strong commitment to the welfare of the youth, as well as the ability to manage staff effectively and ensure compliance with institutional guidelines. In this supervisory capacity, the Juvenile Detention Specialist Supervisor will oversee shift operations, ensuring that all personnel are adequately scheduled and that mandatory overtime is managed appropriately. The Supervisor will also be responsible for recommending and issuing disciplinary actions when necessary, as well as ensuring that daily schedules for the youth are adhered to. Regular inspections of housing units will be conducted to maintain safety and order, and the Supervisor will generate work orders as needed to address any issues that arise. Training and development of staff are also key responsibilities of this position. The Supervisor will evaluate training needs and implement programs to enhance the skills of the Juvenile Detention Specialists. Additionally, the Supervisor will facilitate searches of the facility to ensure a safe environment free from contraband. Documentation is a critical aspect of this role, as the Supervisor must complete and review logs and records to ensure compliance with policies, particularly regarding visitation and the admission and release of residents. Counseling and support for the youth are integral to the Supervisor's duties, as they will address behavioral issues and supervise daily activities, including meals and hygiene. The Supervisor will also be responsible for reporting any unusual incidents or injuries to the Operations Manager and cooperating with investigations as required. Overall, this position requires a dedicated individual who can balance the needs of the residents with the operational demands of the facility.
