About The Position

The Juvenile Detention Officer I is responsible for supervising and coaching juveniles in a secure correctional environment. This role involves conducting intake procedures, providing crisis intervention, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the juveniles. The officer will also engage in educational activities, maintain records, and respond to emergencies as needed. The position requires working shifts, including weekends and holidays, and involves physical demands associated with managing juveniles.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Food Handler Safety Training Card.
• CPR First Aid Certified.
• Valid Nevada driver's license.
• Knowledge of juvenile detention facility practices and regulations.
• Knowledge of coaching techniques for children in need of supervision.
• Knowledge of interviewing techniques and record keeping.

• Experience in a correctional or educational setting.
• Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coach juveniles in a secure correctional setting.
• Process juveniles through intake procedures, including paperwork and drug screening.
• Identify and report potential child abuse or neglect.
• Tutor and reinforce general education requirements.
• Encourage personal hygiene and participation in activities.
• Prepare and serve meals in accordance with regulations.
• Launder juvenile detention clothing and bedding.
• Provide crisis intervention and implement disciplinary measures.
• Lead games and sports activities.
• Maintain sight supervision of juveniles during waking hours.
• Monitor security systems and respond to incidents.
• Administer first aid and evaluate medical needs.
• Maintain daily logs and prepare routine reports.
• Assist in building and grounds maintenance.
• Maintain knowledge of local, state, and federal resources for youth.
• Represent the department with integrity.
