Functions as an entry level Juvenile Detention Officer providing direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour detention facility. The officer facilitates the daily scheduling of the detention hearing dockets and coordinates with the Courts in scheduling all pre-disposition hearings. They manage the detention release process for the Juvenile Courts and monitor and evaluate dockets to determine the status of juveniles listed, ensuring they are in detention no longer than necessary. The officer researches, compiles, and analyzes data concerning various aspects of the detention population, manages home detention and day reporting programs, and maintains knowledge of community-based services to make appropriate recommendations for release. Collaboration with staff, courts, other departments, and external agencies is essential in resolving population issues or creating corrective action plans related to the detention population. The officer serves as back-up to staff and assumes all duties as necessary, including administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, processing intake assessments or discharges, and disciplining youths. They must be physically able to perform 'handling with care techniques, including takedowns, chasing, and restraining youth' as outlined in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) requirement. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
