About The Position

As a Junior Underwriting Analyst, you will support credit analysis and underwriting activities for prospective and existing merchant accounts. In this entry‑level role, you will review credit information, analyze basic financial documentation, and assist in identifying risk indicators while working within established credit policies and procedures. This role is designed for candidates early in their underwriting or financial services career who are looking to build foundational credit and risk analysis skills with training, guidance, and structured decision frameworks.

Requirements

  • Ability to review and interpret credit reports and basic financial documents.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Comfort working in a queue‑based, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn underwriting policies, risk concepts, and financial analysis techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1–2 years of experience in underwriting, credit analysis, risk, financial services, merchant processing, or a related role.
  • Familiarity with third‑party credit tools such as LexisNexis or similar platforms.
  • Internship or academic exposure to financial analysis or risk assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Review consumer and business credit reports to support creditworthiness assessments for new and existing merchant accounts.
  • Analyze basic financial documentation, including bank statements and processing activity, to identify potential risk indicators.
  • Monitor account activity that exceeds predefined risk thresholds and escalate findings to senior underwriters or leadership for review.
  • Apply established underwriting guidelines and credit policies consistently to support sound credit decisions.
  • Assist with risk and fraud investigations by gathering documentation and clearly documenting findings.
  • Maintain accurate and organized underwriting records in accordance with compliance and audit standards.
  • Communicate professionally with internal partners, sales teams, and stakeholders to obtain required information and resolve underwriting inquiries.
  • Manage an individual underwriting queue to ensure timely and accurate processing of applications.
  • Participate in training, coaching, and team meetings to build underwriting knowledge and decision‑making skills.
