About The Position

This role requires candidates to be based in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area. As a Junior Underwriter, you will use your working knowledge of general credit underwriting guidelines to be responsible for the analysis of submitted files for debt-to-income ratio, income analysis/ability to repay, and credit profile/history, while adhering to Splash credit policies and partner or program-specific guidelines. Junior Underwriters support and uphold fair lending practices of Splash Financial and are responsible for quality targets ensuring the highest speed and efficiency, while maintaining a strong level of customer satisfaction. The Junior Underwriter will review and analyze complex customer financial documentation and propose solutions to assist customers with consumer loan originations. The staff members may interact with other internal and external parties such as Customer Service Rep/Loan Consultants, Fraud Operations Associates, lending partners, vendors, and other stakeholders. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in credit Underwriting, credit analysis, loan processing, or financial services operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting practices related to lending and consumer credit reports.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including macros and pivot tables, and familiarity with financial services industry tools.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and proven teamwork with internal and external partners.
  • A customer-first mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow in a fast-moving, technology-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, consumer lending, or high-volume underwriting environments.
  • Exposure to fair lending regulations (ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP).
  • Interest in career growth toward Senior Underwriter or Credit Strategy roles.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct credit underwriting, income analysis, and assess borrower documentation to determine repayment ability and loan resolution.
  • Follow internal AML/CIP policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC requirements (as applicable)
  • Support internal and external audits, exams, and regulatory rules
  • Identify missing, inconsistent, or high-risk information and proactively seek resolution.
  • Document customer interactions accurately in the CRM and LOS systems for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough documentation of underwriting decisions and customer interactions in CRM and LOS systems.
  • Utilize specialized systems, tools, and spreadsheet calculators, adhering to lending regulations and Fair Lending practices.
  • Analyze financial information, including income, debt ratios, and credit review, while keeping up to date on credit policy changes.
