About The Position

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) include the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Junior Network Engineer & Server Admin for our Digital Strategies department. The Junior Network Engineer & Server Admin is responsible for providing support for network, systems, and telecommunications infrastructure. Coordinating with the Managed IT Services Provider to ensure effective monitoring, maintenance, and issue resolution for system and network operations. Assist with the installation, configuration, and optimization of network and system components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer technology and at least two (2) years of experience in desktop, network and technology support, or equivalent experience in Information Technology with at least two (2) years of experience in desktop, network and technology support.
  • Proficiency or knowledge of Google Workspace applications preferred.
  • Strong hardware support background for PCs, Macs, network and mobile devices in an enterprise environment.
  • Proficient in Windows, Mac OS.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, and Windows network services (DNS, DHCP) and communications protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP) etc.
  • MCSE, CCNP, and VCTA-DCV certifications desired.
  • Required to be on call for weekends based on a rotation schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring network performance, availability, and security.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolving network connectivity issues, escalating to relevant team members or vendors as needed.
  • Assist in implementing network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and access control.
  • Respond to network incidents and escalate complex issues.
  • Support network performance optimization efforts.
  • Assist in configuring and maintaining switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Participate in network upgrades and expansions, under supervision.
  • Support daily monitoring of servers, ensuring uptime and security.
  • Assist in performing backups, patching, and routine maintenance.
  • Work with Managed IT Services to address server-related issues.

Benefits

  • Hourly range for this position is $33.95 - $36.51 with experience plus excellent benefits.
  • Full time regular, non-exempt position.
