About The Position

Join a dynamic property management team supporting a diverse portfolio of properties in the Washington DC metro area, including office, lab, meeting, and coworking spaces in Reston, VA, and North Bethesda, MD, plus a 250+ acre recreational farm. The Junior Maintenance Technician provides hands-on building maintenance, light cleaning duties, spill cleanup, and event setup/breakdown support, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for tenants. This position reports to the Sr. Facilities Manager and collaborates with Property Managers, building engineers, custodial staff, and vendors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or trade school coursework is a plus.
  • Genuine interest in facilities, maintenance, light cleaning, and building systems; prior hands-on maintenance experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and multiple properties.
  • Basic understanding of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and safety practices.
  • Comfortable operating heavy machinery; (i.e. forklift, skid loader, side x side, and ATVs)
  • Strong problem-solving attitude with attention to detail and reliability.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills; effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently with supervision and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with work order systems or facility software is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Any relevant maintenance, facilities, or hospitality support experience is helpful, including internships or co-op roles.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site visits as needed.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks (lift, climb ladders, carry tools, work in mechanical rooms, etc.) and access all building areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications related to facilities or trades (e.g., facility maintenance, HVAC, electrical) are a plus.
  • Real estate or property management exposure is beneficial but not required.
  • Knowledge of basic budgeting, invoicing, and supplier coordination is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and light cleaning tasks across multiple building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general building envelope) under supervision.
  • Assist with minor repairs and troubleshooting of building equipment and facilities to minimize downtime and tenant disruption.
  • Conduct light cleaning duties in common areas, lobbies, coworking spaces, and event areas as assigned (dusting, sweeping, mopping, trash removal, restroom touch-ups, glass surfaces) to maintain a neat appearance.
  • Respond to spills and cleaning needs promptly; implement appropriate spill cleanup procedures and safe disposal per site protocols.
  • Set up for events and meetings (arranging furniture, equipment, and spaces) and assist with breakdown and reset after events or tenant activities.
  • Support readiness and safety initiatives, including routine inspections, safety checks, and adherence to site-specific SOPs.
  • Assist with routine maintenance requests and urgent issues in a calm, solution-oriented manner.
  • Assists with tenant-related services (e.g., moves, service requests, and access coordination) to ensure smooth operations.
  • Monitor and report on facility conditions, equipment status, and required maintenance to the Sr. Facilities Manager.
  • Support vendor coordination: track work orders, verify service quality, and ensure work is completed on time and within scope.
  • Assist with basic space planning support and maintenance of common areas, coworking spaces, and meeting rooms setup.
  • Aid in inventory management for tools, parts, and consumables; request reorder as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, safety logs, and cleaning tasks, and completes work orders in CMMS.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, safety standards, and building codes.
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours rotation as required to support property operations.
