We are seeking a motivated Junior Linux Systems Administrator with a passion for hardware and an eagerness to expand into a High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment.   • Install, update, and administer Linux operating systems (RHEL, Rocky, Debian, Ubuntu) on bare-metal hardware.
  • Manage bare-metal hardware installations using PXE, manual, and automated methods.
  • Configure and maintain user accounts, applications, OS packages, and kernel/OS settings.
  • Work with various filesystems (xfs, ext4, nfs, fuse) and manage networking, firewall settings, and security hardening (STIG, OSCAP).
  • Rack and connect systems from hardware vendors (Dell, SM, HPE) and perform lights-out management for local and remote systems.
  • Conduct firmware updates and management using BMC tools.
  • Gain familiarity with storage hardware including NAS, SAN, and direct-attached drives (SATA/SAS/NVMe).
  • Understand and manage PCIe cards (RAID, network, GPU).
  • Develop a foundational understanding of HPC technologies, including: Parallel/distributed file systems (e.g., Lustre, Ceph, GPFS, GlusterFS, BeeGFS), High-speed interconnect fabrics (e.g., Infiniband, Omni-path, RoCE), HPC batch schedulers (e.g., PBSpro, OpenPBS, SLURM, Torque, HTCondor, SGE).
  • Assist users in understanding how HPC systems function and provide support as needed.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow in HPC methods and applications, with a desire for mentorship.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work experience.
  • Active TS/SCI obtain a CI polygraph.
  • Willingness to work 100% onsite in a secure environment.
  • Basic Linux skills (3-5 years of administration) with experience in installation, updates, and system management.
  • Hands-on hardware experience (3-5 years) with various vendors (Dell, SM, HPE) including racking systems and connecting network and storage devices.
  • Basic knowledge of HPC technologies (1-3 years of experience).
  • Familiarity with cluster managers (e.g., Bright Cluster Manager/Base Command Manager, xCAT, Warewulf, Rocks, Scyld) is a plus.
  • Strong willingness to learn and expand skill set in HPC environments.
