About The Position

Planned Systems International (PSI) is an Enterprise IT services company seeking a Junior Linux System Administrator. The scope of this project is to provide NYS ITS with consulting / technical services in support of NYS ITS infrastructure and software environment including Unisys proprietary and industry available technology.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years professional experience working as a Linux system administrator (preferably in SUSE Linux environment).
  • Experience writing scripts, shell, PHP etc.
  • Knowledge of Linux backup solutions a plus.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Must be willing to work with others, share ideas and be a team player.
  • Have excellent writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides backups of all NYS Linux systems serving NYC HRA WMS users.
  • Maintains integrity of critical backup files stored on disk.
  • Writes and maintains required shell scripts to administer the NYS Unisys Forward/ES3000 SUSE Linux systems.
  • Monitors local Linux system performance, manages system swap space and establishes CRON jobs as needed.
  • Provides load balancing functions on the local NYS Unisys Forward/ES3000 SUSE Linux servers and coordinates, when necessary, the moving of users from server to server.
  • Installs new SUSE Linux software levels, and patches onto the local NYS Forward/ES3000 Linux server environment.
  • Examines and fixes any problems related to the Unisys Forward/ES3000 Linux servers, routinely checks and fixes problems in the base and host files when necessary.
  • Migrates and activates, when necessary, the local WMS software application updates to the 500+ logical partitions running on the Unisys Forward environment.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots issues relating to Asynchronous Terminal Servers, Printers and terminals.
  • Checks usage and determines user needs of this hardware.
