About The Position

The Junior Human Resources Specialist (Federal Benefits) will provide essential support in benefits and retirement administration for a government client in Washington, DC. This role involves assisting the Benefits Team with various programs, engaging with employees to promote wellness, and managing inquiries related to employee benefits. The position is hybrid, requiring onsite presence one day a week, and is expected to last approximately one and a half years with a possibility of extension.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • 3 years of experience providing advice and information on employee benefits, retirement, health insurance, and life insurance.
  • 3 years of experience preparing retirement estimates via an automated retirement calculation program (ex. Fed-HR).
  • 3 years of experience calculating SCDs for retirement, leave, and RIF.
  • 3 years of experience preparing retirement packages for submission to OPM.
  • 3 years of experience putting benefits documents into Federal Personnel Payroll System (FPPS).
  • 3 years of experience entering benefits elections (health and life) into automated personnel/payroll system.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Benefits Team with benefits, work life, and retirement programs (FEHB, FEGLI, EAP, TSP, and the Telework Program).
  • Engage the workforce and promote wellness programs.
  • Perform triage activities for incoming benefit inquiries.
  • Assist with open season, seminars, and special emphasis programs.
  • Counsel employees regarding their benefits.
  • Review and process benefit forms such as FEHB, FEGLI, TSP etc.
  • Correspond with FEHB carriers, MetLife, OPM, and TSP on behalf of the employee.
  • Request military documents from DFAS, provide employees with deposit information.
  • Correspond with payroll on military deposits and other benefit-related items.
  • Provide briefings for new hire orientation.
  • Coordinate logistics for work life, benefits, and retirement programs.
  • Maintain records in various benefits-related systems (e-Comp, FHR Navigator, FPPS).
  • Correspond with agencies to compile service history for retirement purposes.
  • Calculate redeposit service, FICA, and military deposits.
  • Maintain complete records of all activities and actions.
