About The Position

Providence Hall is a charter school located in Herriman UT. Central to the school's mission is teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly. Students at the junior high participate in pathways that focus their classes in areas that not only meet state standards, but also support their individual interests, foster their desires to try something new, and aim to prepare them for transition to high school. Providence Hall seeks a highly skilled and enthusiastic junior high (6th-8th) full-time paraprofessional (special education) to join our team. As a paraprofessional (special education) you provide instructional, behavioral and other support to special education students in the classroom or other areas of the campus, to include one-on-one support for them. Schedule: Up to 40 hours/week during the school year on days when students are present May need to attend some department, building, and LEA professional development, trainings and meetings

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Positive interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain calm in high-stress situations.
  • Willing to effectively problem-solve as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of Google Workspace and its collaboration tools.
  • Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, in an instructional setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the classroom to promote a healthy and safe learning environment for assigned student(s).
  • Ensure classroom safety guidelines are met at all times.
  • Utilize various techniques to be successful with managing assigned student(s).
  • Engage with assigned student(s) to enhance and encourage learning.
  • Assist the teacher(s) in modifying materials to meet specific needs of assigned student(s).
  • Provide basic caregiving duties, support, and encouragement in all aspects of development of assigned student(s).
  • Take necessary precautions to protect assigned student(s).
  • Monitor assigned student(s) in the classroom to minimize distractions and disruptions.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene, diapering/toileting, feeding, etc. as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the MTSS process and support the school in general.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative learning community.
  • Actively participate in assigned meetings, professional developments, and other trainings.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
