About The Position

The NATO SEASPARROW Surface Missile System Project is a joint international military and industrial consortium, distinguished as the largest and longest-running cooperative smart defense initiative in NATO history. The NATO SEASPARROW Project has had one pursuit – perfecting anti-ship missile defense capabilities through continued technology improvement. The NSSMS has a computer complex that processes targets that are either assigned from an external designation source or detected by its own fire-control radar. The radar also illuminates the target for the missile and serves as the target-tracking radar. An NSSMS battery comprises one or two fire-control radar directors, a computer, and a launcher. NSWC Port Hueneme is seeking a Junior Engineer, Electrical, Computer, or similar Engineering degree, with a with strong, basic set of foundational LINUX skills including 3 to 5 years of hands-on working knowledge of RHEL (mandatory) / VxWorks to support critical NSSMS computer infrastructure that requires programming, integration testing, hardware selection, collaboration with systems engineering SMEs, system maintenance and documentation. Duties will be performed either as a team member, including government employees, or independently. This includes: Assist the In-Service Engineering Agent with Test & Evaluation support to the NSSMS Radar program to include hardware and software engineering, problem resolution, installation and modernization, system integration, testing, data collection/analysis, review and update specifications and documents, and writing test plans or reports. Perform engineering analysis, assessments, investigations, distance support, and evaluations for NSSMS aboard Navy ships and laboratories. Provide support for the development, review, and update of engineering, logistics, cybersecurity, data analysis, and post event reports. Provide shipboard/land-based onsite NSSMS software installation and system troubleshooting support, including: o Develop, update, test, and validate hardware/software procedures, processes, and technical documents (drawings, technical manuals, MRCs) used by ISEAs and shipboard personnel to support assessments, T&E events, installations, and responding to Fleet Tech Assists (FTA). (CDRL A024) o Provide test support for Developmental Test (DT), Operational Test (OT), and Combat Systems Ships Qualification and Test (CSSQT); Self-Defense Test ship and/or Land-Based Test Site test events. Evaluate performance specifically related to NSSMS software/hardware reliability, operation, performance, and/or maintainability problems, as well as proposed design changes, advanced development changes, or system improvements. Prepare, modify, review, and update technical documentation for technical accuracy and adequacy for all phases of lifecycle support. The Contractor shall perform software installation and, therefore, shall maintain the qualifications required for the NSWC PHD Cybersecurity Workforce.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree with 3 to 5 years of applicable engineering experience. A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar Engineering degree is preferred.
  • Required 3 to 5 years of hands-on working knowledge of RHEL (mandatory).
  • Must possess a secret clearance or be able to obtain a secret clearance.
  • Tasking will include working aboard U.S. Navy Ships/vessels. Must be able to climb tall ladders, inspect from aerial lifts, use standard tools, wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work in adverse environments for long periods.
  • Must be physically able to climb up and/or down a pilot’s ladder to board a naval vessel underway at sea and stay onboard on a U.S. Naval Vessel for several underway days.
  • Must be able to periodically lift-up to 50 pounds and be able to walk to/from job sites.
  • May require overnight travel aboard U.S. Navy ships to conduct tasking while the ship is underway conducting testing/operations.
  • Communication skills in briefing at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work with and foster a strong team environment with multiple different organizations.
  • Analytical skills to effectively track, manage, and status multiple technical issues.
  • Must have good Microsoft Office Suite computer skills.
