This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Junior Economist to join their team to support their client.

Requirements

  • Must live in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area to be considered.
  • Public Trust Clearance - Due to federal clearance requirements for this position, only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible. Candidates with visa sponsorship —now or in the future—are not eligible for this clearance.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to review, organize, and interpret financial, regulatory, legislative, and programmatic information.
  • Experience developing clear, accurate, and well-structured reports, summaries, and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, records, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting data validation, records maintenance, and quality control processes.
  • Ability to identify trends, discrepancies, anomalies, and emerging issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal team members and government stakeholders.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience supporting economic, financial, business, compliance, policy, regulatory, or analytical functions.
  • Experience conducting research, analyzing data, maintaining structured records, and supporting written analytical products.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited university.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and track current and prospective state and local jurisdictions that assess and collect aviation fuel taxes, including methods of assessment, collection, and utilization of aviation fuel tax proceeds.
  • Review and monitor action plans and corrective action plans submitted by taxing jurisdictions regarding aviation fuel tax revenue compliance.
  • Support the development of quarterly and annual summary reports for aviation fuel tax revenue collection activities and findings.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of submission templates, review methodologies, and records to ensure information is accurate, reliable, and available for the duration of support.
  • Analyze available information to help identify trends and emerging risks related to aviation fuel tax revenue assessment, collection, and use, including potential legal, regulatory, or legislative changes.
  • Document methods of tax assessment, enabling legislation, collection amounts, and the use or allocation of aviation fuel tax revenues by each taxing jurisdiction.
  • Support development of a knowledge management SharePoint site for data collection and document repository purposes by recommending content and participating in requirements development activities.
  • Ensure content prepared for publication is Section 508 compliant and suitable for use in government reporting and repository environments.
  • Use reporting and tracking repositories to organize relevant jurisdictions, action plans, and compliance status information.
  • Perform validation checks and support standardized data entry protocols to help maintain data integrity within aviation fuel tax program records and databases.
  • Identify, document, and elevate discrepancies or anomalies in reported data and support development of recommendations for corrective action.
  • Support preparation of written analyses, briefing materials, and other program documentation in response to the Program Office and government direction.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and government stakeholders to support consistent analytical methods, accurate documentation, and timely deliverables across assigned tasks.
  • Assist with other support tasks as needed.
