Position summary: The Clearing House provides critical payment services to banks and their customers. This entry-level application developer position supports the design, development, and testing of key software services used in TCH’s critical wire payments system (CHIPS), which clears and settles nearly $2 trillion US dollars in domestic and international payments each business day. Responsibilities including developing and testing enhancements to core CHIPS applications using multiple programming languages, including Java for server-side components and system utilities. Other programming responsibilities may include developing Python scripts and programs to build reliable data pipelines and creating Web-based user interface applications for customers and internal product teams using JavaScript or Typescript frameworks. Developers are expected to work closely and collaboratively with senior team members, documenting their design and test cases and using automated source code management tools for automated deployments. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a keen interest in learning and using new technologies, such as AWS cloud-based services to prototype new features and AI/ML to enhance analytics and decision making. Qualifications required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar mathematics, science, or engineering field Experience and coursework with programming languages, data structures, and software design Experience coding and testing using Java programming language and standard open-source libraries Experience developing ETL pipelines and/or analytics using languages such as Python and PowerShell Exposure to developing Web user-interfaces and API-based services using JavaScript or Typescript Understanding of team-based software development lifecycle, particularly Agile methodology and tools Understanding of software quality concepts and testing methods, including unit and integration tests Exposure to collaborative development tools, such as source code management and automated testing Excellent verbal and written communication skills for business discussions and technical documentation Qualifications desired: Experience or exposure to the financial services industry, specifically in wholesale payments Experience or exposure to developing applications using cloud services, such as AWS, Azure or GCP Experience or exposure to developing applications using AI models, such as Claude Code or Google Codex. Essential functions and responsibilities: Collaborate with development team members and other technology functions to create and enhance software components and features used to support TCH’s core payment products and related systems Design, document, test, and deliver software components and features, ensuring secure, reliable, high-quality, and high-performance software that meet TCH’s business requirements and technical standards Physical demands and work environment: Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Employees in this position will report to the office 3 days per week. Occasional travel may be required. Onsite work requirements may change at any time.
